Selfys, Immanence, Transcendence
Been thinkin' about the art of the selfy (reactin' to https://medium.com/matter/selfie-fe945dcba6b0) (note: I really like Ezra Koenig's use of "selfy" and refuse to change). One which I never really got the hang of.
I think they're great, remind us we are bodies which is good. Can't be a danged despiser of the body, that's for sure.
My lack of relationship to selfys feels connected to my sense of myself as primarily a subjective being, rather than an objective one. Went through childhood much more concerned with what I could "do". Distinctly recall being anti-fashion at a young age.
Let me stress that this isn't against people who like to take selfys. My studies in existentialism have taught me that humanity has to be aware of both their Immanence (body) and Transcendence (consciousness). I have to remind myself that I am a body all the time. It feels like a chore: "oh yeah, if I don't comb my hair, take showers and dress nicely, things will generally go less well for me." I don't know where that comes from. I've definitely pathologized it once or twice.
Overall, I like to be behind the lens rather than in front of it. And when I do turn the lens on myself, it's usually for some kind of purpose (more often than not, comedy). But I'm human, I do want to look good.
Anyways I've been trying to feel more connected to my body, because it is me, and if I don't keep that link strong, it's almost like it runs away with me.
So here is a selfy of me flying thru space.
